Autumn Weather and Weight Loss

Where I live in sunny Colorado, autumn weather is usually sunny with cold nights and warm days, broken by an occasional winter storm that blows through in a day or two. This year is shaping up to be a little different. We had our first real snow in September and we have had a couple of whoppers since then, along with several periods of gloomy drippy weather that I would expect in Seattle, but not here.

The point of this rambling is that you can’t let the weather get you off track on your personal weight loss and fitness program. This past Saturday was cold and wet, sandwiched in between a Friday night snow storm and a Saturday/Sunday blizzard, but I went out with a friend and we walked about twelve miles despite the weather.

Of course, exercise alone does not really burn all that many calories. But, it does change your metabolism so that you have more energy, burn more calories all day long, and generally feel better while not eating as much.

So, find ways to stay active even if the weather makes staying in bed reading a book all day look like a better choice.
